Ironwoods is a subdivision centrally located in Chapel Hill.  It is located between Seawell Elementary and Carrboro Elementary.  It is down the street from Smith Middle School and Chapel Hill High.

The neighborhood was built in the late 1980s and 90s.  A few houses have recently been built on some of the remaining lots.  The homes were built by local custom builders and one national builder (M/I Homes).  There are approximately 150 homes that range in sizes, types and styles.  The lots range in size from .25 to .75 with the bulk of them being in the .3 range.  This neighborhood is hilly so you can find basement houses.  The neighborhood backs to Bolin Creek with 10 miles of hiking and biking trails and is across the street from the Horace Williams Tract (renamed Chapel Hill North).  There is a fantastic walking trail through Chapel Hill North.  If you are adventurous, you can go from Chapel Hill North to Bolin Creek and really enjoy the trials in Chapel Hill.  You can also walk to Bolin Creek and into Carrboro.  It is a great walk!

Chapel Hill North, approximately 1000 acres, is owned by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  UNC has plans to develop approximately 300 acres over a 50 year period with office space, research space and residential housing.

Ironwoods is not a cookie cutter neighborhood.  There is a real diversity in the house styles and this neighborhood has a side walk!  The neighborhood is a large circle with cul-de-sacs coming off of it.  The circle is .6 of a mile!

You can walk, bike or drive from Chapel Hill to downtown Chapel Hill or downtown Carrboro. It is so nice to walk from Ironwoods to the Carrboro Farmers Market or to Johnny’s for an excellent cup of coffee.  Don’t miss the live music and the food trucks at Johnny’s!
