Raleigh Market Report

Anyone looking for a new home in a city that is not only beautiful and culturally significant but also growing rapidly should look into Raleigh real estate. Raleigh is not only the capital of North Carolina but also an example of one of the first planned cities in the country. The site of the city was chosen in 1788. It was incorporated once the city was completed in 1792. The city is laid out in a grid pattern that makes getting around town easy and hassle-free. It’s often referred to as the City of Oaks due to the large number of oak trees that line the city streets. Raleigh, along with Durham and Chapel Hill, make up the “Research Triangle.” The city has a ton of employment opportunities, which is one of the reasons it has experienced so much growth. In 2015, Forbes named Raleigh as the fourth fastest growing American city, behind only Houston, Dallas and Austin. The population grew by 1.86 percent over 2014 alone and is expected to grow by another 2.02 percent in 2015. If this didn’t seem impressive, Raleigh’s metropolitan population was recorded at 1.188,564 in 2012, a 47.8 percent increase since 2000. The population of Raleigh proper was last recorded in 2013 at 431,746.

Shopping and Dining

Considering the huge influx of residents over the last decade, it should come as no surprise that there’s been a big increase in the number of dining and shopping options in the city. There are plenty of excellent traditional American restaurants in the area, including Glenwood Grill, Stanbury and the Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern. Anyone looking to get a taste of another culture can easily do so at diverse restaurants like the Machu Picchu Peruvian Cuisine, Soo Cafe (Korean food), J Betski’s (German and Polish food), Bida Manda (Asian Fusion) and Guasaca (Venezuelan), just to name a few. Of course, one can’t live in North Carolina without having access to North Carolina-style barbecue, of which Raleigh has plenty. Residents can get their barbecue fix at The Pit, Ole Time Barbeque and Big Al’s BBQ.

Shopping options are almost as varied as Raleigh’s dining options. There are plenty of small locally owned stores as well as national chains within a short driving distance of most Raleigh Real Estate. Check out the Raleigh Flea Market, the North Hills shopping center, the Crabtree Valley Mall or the Triangle Town Center.

This includes being named as the top city in Businessweek’s 2011 “America’s Best Places to Live” list and being named third on Forbes’ 2012 “Best Places for Business and Careers.” The city has also collected accolades for being one of the best cities for health and happiness and fastest growing cities for technology jobs.
