UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus Opens in Summer 2015

It seems like just yesterday UNC Hospitals announced the breaking ground for the Hillsborough, NC campus. Today, the vision has become a reality as the Hillsborough UNC Hospitals campus will open the emergency department on July 6th and in-patient services will begin in August. This beautiful structure is different than most hospital patients are accustomed to entering. Instead of whites and greys this building is comprised of blues, yellows and greens. The location is the hospital is just one mile off Interstate 40 right next to Durham Tech’s Orange County campus. It is also very close to the Waterstone Neighborhood which is expected to grow to thousands of new residents in the years to come.

UNC Hospitals are always on the cutting edge of technology when it comes to medicine. The Hillsborough UNC Campus is no different. Patient food is very critical to the UNC staff and they are making a concerted effort to have food that is not only necessary for recovery but enjoyed by the patients.

“We believe more in providing foods that people will eat, they want to eat – within reason – that would be more like what they would eat at home, so we can adjust their treatment accordingly,” he said. “Food is an important part of healing. It’s an important part of your psychological health.”

Serious trauma and heart attack patients will be flown by Carolina AirCare to the Chapel Hill UNC Hospital.
